These posts include interviews with the women candidates who aspire to serve as mayor. San Rafael de Heredia has not elected an “alcaldesa” yet, or at least not since 1998 when the municipal code reform turned the mayor’s office into a democratically elected position.
Based on a number of interviews, I hope to gain some understanding of how having women candidates makes a difference in the voter’s decision-making process and, how women have fared governing in their own local communities.
