I live in San Rafael de Heredia, Costa Rica.
Sometimes, but not as often as before, I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area, California

I’m a writer, editor, translator and instructor. And except for the work it takes to write these pages, I’m mostly retired. TicoLog? It’s a personal project that covers Costa Rican local governments and politics, starting with a focus on San Rafael de Heredia.

I hold a degree in journalism and political science from San Francisco State University, but at the moment, I think of myself as a citizen journalist. The idea of starting up TicoLog as a retired person’s pastime, came to me when I noticed that this small geopolitical region where I now live has no media covering local politics.

Why? Well, I figured somebody in the world might like to know and understand how this tiny country operates at the local level, and, how its democratic system and institutions hold it all together.
